Current name: Lorri Willwerth Wheeler
Age when this tile was made: 10
Where did you live when you made this tile?Chapel Street West Somerville
Where do you live now?North of Boston
Do you consider Somerville your hometown? Yes
What is your earliest Somerville memory?Moving to Somerville in 1976 right before Kindergarten.
How would you describe Somerville in the 1980s?Filled with families and kids. You never had to go very far to find a people to play/hang out with. Tufts gave it a fun vibe and open space. It seemed like there was a school of one kind or another on every corner.
How would you describe Somerville today?Yuppified. So many of the changes have been great but, is not the same city I grew up in.
How has Somerville changed? There are so few families. There are mostly young couples and young adults living in Somerville now. The T changed the vibe in Somerville and made in more like Cambridge. Some of that influnence is great but, it has definitely changed. The T made Somerville so much more accessible and attactive to young working adults. When you drive through Somerville now you don't see throngs of kids playing in the parks or walking to school. The T also increased property values and a lot of families saw that as their chances to move to the suburbs.
They spelled my last name wrong on the tile. It is spelled Willwerth.
