Age when this tile was made: I WAS 7 YEARS OLD AND IN 2ND GRADE AT THE POWDER HOUSE COMMUNITY SCHOOL
Where did you live when you made this tile?I LIVED ON WALLACE ST. JUST A COUPLE OF BLOCKS FROM THE STATION.
Where else have you lived in Somerville?WALLACE ST - 1972 - 1990
CHURCH ST - 1990 - 1993
WALLACE ST - 1999 - 2000
HUDSON, MA SINCE 2001
Do you consider Somerville your hometown? Yes
What is your earliest Somerville memory?GOING TO DAVIS SQ AS A KID. THE MCDONALDS USED TO HAVE A PLAY AREA IN THE BACK. THE FIRST OF IT'S KIND. I ALSO WALKED TO HODGKINS PARK FOR LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL AND TO GET CANDY AT THE HODGKINS SPA.
How would you describe Somerville in the 1980s?BLUE COLLAR.
How would you describe Somerville today?YUPPIE. THE NEW HARVARD SQUARE. WHITE COLLAR.
How has Somerville changed?AS IS SAID IN QUESTION 7, IT'S NOW A MORE WHITE COLLAR. THERE IS A LARGE INFLUX OF COLLEGE PEOPLE AND COLLEGE GRADS. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THE MINORITIES HAVE BEEN PUSHED EAST WHERE THERE WERE MORE MINORITIES WHEN I WAS GROWING UP THERE.
MY FAMILY AND I MAKE A POINT TO VISIT SOMERVILLE FOR NOSTALIC REASONS AS WELL AS OUR LOVE FOR SHOPPING AT MCKINNONS MEAT MARKET. WE STOCK UP WITH A MONTH'S WORTH OF MEAT, SINCE IT COSTS LESS THAN SHOPPING AT A REGULAR GROCERY STORE. WE ALSO VISIT MIKES AS WELL AS SESSA'S AND DAVE'S PASTA. WE LOVE VISTING SOMERVILLE.
